Getting started
What is Photoz?
Photoz is a photo archive and community where only photos taken with a camera or scanned with a scanner go public. Keep your photos in one place, look at other photographers' work, and leave likes and comments.
Does it cost anything?
No. Every feature is free, and there is no monthly limit on uploads.
Which devices can I use?
The iPhone app, the Android app and the web on your computer (photoz.co.kr/app). You can also upload straight from the Lightroom Classic plugin (Mac and Windows). Sign in with the same account everywhere.
Which languages are supported?
Eight: English, Korean, Japanese, Chinese (Simplified), Spanish, Portuguese, French and German. The apps follow your device language.
How do I sign up?
On iPhone, with Apple, Google or email. On Android and the web, with Google or email.
Can I look around without signing in?
Yes. PhotoWall and Top Rank, and the photos and author pages you open from them, are open to everyone. Likes, comments and uploads need an account.
Uploading and going public
Which photos go public?
Only photos made with a camera or a scanner. The server reads the metadata in the file (EXIF and similar) to decide. AI-generated images, digital artwork and screenshots can be uploaded, but they stay private and only you can see them (Archive only).
Do edited photos go public?
Yes. Photos edited in Lightroom or Photoshop go public as long as the camera information (EXIF) is still in the file. If the export strips the metadata, there is nothing to judge, and the photo becomes Archive only. Export again with metadata included and upload that file.
Can I upload film scans?
Yes. Images scanned with a scanner go public.
What does "In review" mean, and how long does it take?
Every upload goes through a safety check and a capture check. It usually takes a few seconds to a few minutes, and we notify you when it's done. Photos that break the safety rules, such as sexual or violent content, are rejected, and the reason is shown.
I think the result is wrong.
Go to Support › New inquiry and attach the photo. Our team will look at it and judge it again.
Which files can I upload, and how many?
Photo files such as JPEG, HEIC and PNG, up to 64 MB each. You can pick up to 30 at a time, with no monthly limit.
What happens if I upload the same photo again?
If the file is identical to one you've already uploaded, it's marked "Already uploaded" and isn't uploaded again. Edited versions and re-converted files upload as new photos.
Can I upload iPhone photos (HEIC) as they are?
Yes. The app converts them and keeps the capture information.
Can I upload from my computer or Lightroom?
Yes. Use [Upload] on the web (photoz.co.kr/app), or upload as you export with the Lightroom Classic plugin. Get the plugin from Support › Download.
AI suggests titles, descriptions and tags. Can I turn it off?
Yes. In the app settings, under "AI auto-suggest", choose "Titles and descriptions", "Tags only" or "Don't use". You can also pick one of five tones for the suggestions. A suggestion is only a draft until you edit it or keep it.
Can I edit the title, description and tags after uploading?
Yes. Open your photo and use [⋯] › Edit photo.
Copyright and privacy
Can other people save or screenshot my photos?
In the apps, screenshots and screen recording are blocked on the photo page and in the full-screen viewer, and there is no long-press to save. Browsers can't block screenshots, so on the web we put the author's name as a watermark on large images and block right-click and dragging. Every photo also carries an invisible watermark.
What happens to my originals? Can I download them?
Other people only see viewing copies; we never hand out your original. You, the author, can download your originals from your photo's page.
Is my photo's location shown?
Not by default. You can turn location on for each photo and choose how precise it is: exact, neighborhood or city. The photo files shown to other people have all capture information, including GPS, removed.
How do I make photos private or delete them?
In Archive, tap [Select], pick the photos, then tap Private or Delete in the bar at the bottom. Deleting removes the original too and can't be undone.
If I share an album link, who can see it?
Anyone with the link can see the album without signing in. That includes the photos you keep private, not just public ones. Archive-only, rejected and in-review photos never show. [Stop sharing] closes the link at once; turning sharing back on makes a new link. Allowing original downloads and including location are separate switches, both off by default.
Community and rankings
What are Today, Picks and Trending on PhotoWall?
Today shows newly published photos first. Picks shows photos in the genres you chose on your profile. Editor's Pick is chosen by the Photoz team. Trending shows photos whose likes are rising fast over the last 48 hours.
What is "Show on Today again"?
It puts one of your public photos back on Today for 24 hours. You can use it on photos published more than 24 hours ago, once every 7 days for the same photo.
How is Top Rank decided?
By likes received in the last 7 days: the top 100 photos and the top 100 authors. It updates every hour on the hour. Your likes on your own photos don't count.
How do author grades go up?
By likes received in the last 7 days: Bronze at 50, Silver at 100, Gold at 300, Platinum at 700 and Diamond at 1,500. Promotions apply right away; a drop applies once a day (00:00 UTC).
What is Kelvin (the activity index)?
It shows what you did over the last 7 days as a color temperature (K). Visits, likes you give, follows, comments, uploads and publishing all count; likes you receive don't. It updates once a day. Tap it on a profile for details.
How do contests work, and how is the ranking decided?
Go to Top Rank › Contests and enter a photo from your archive or upload a new one. How many photos one person can enter depends on the contest. The ranking is the likes each entry receives from entry until the deadline, and the deadline is in UTC. Results are final at the deadline; not even the Photoz team can change them.
Can I translate comments and photo descriptions written in another language?
Yes. Comments in a language other than your device's show [Translate], and photo titles and descriptions show [See translation]. You need to be signed in.
Who can I exchange messages with?
Anyone who allows it. In settings, each person chooses to receive messages from everyone, only people they follow, or no one. People who have blocked each other can't exchange messages.
How do I report or block a photo or a person?
Use [⋯] on the photo, comment or author page. Blocking hides each other's photos and comments and ends follows and messages between you. Reports are reviewed by the Photoz team.
Notifications and account
Can I turn notifications off or choose which ones I get?
Yes. In Notification settings, turn each kind on or off: likes, comments, follows, rankings and more. With quiet hours set, notifications that arrive during them are sent when they end. Notifications you turn off still appear in the notification center.
Can I switch to a light theme?
Yes. In the app, go to Settings › Theme and choose Light, Dark or System. On the web, switch it at the bottom of the page.
I want to change my page address (@handle) or my name.
Change them in Edit profile. You can change your handle once every 30 days, and your old address keeps redirecting to the new one. You can change your display name at any time, as long as no one else uses it.
My account was suspended.
Accounts can be suspended when photos that break the safety rules are uploaded repeatedly. Write to support@photoz.co.kr and we'll look into it.
How do I delete my account?
Delete it right away from Profile › Delete account in the app. Accounts that sign in with Apple must be deleted on an iPhone. If you can't use the app, email support@photoz.co.kr from the address you signed up with. Once we confirm it's you, we delete the account within 7 days. See Account deletion for details.
How do I contact you?
In the app, use Profile › Support › New inquiry; on the web, use Support › Contact us. We'll notify you when we reply. You can also email support@photoz.co.kr.
